BBC To Launch New Show To Rival SM:tv

BBC bosses are launching a Saturday morning edition of Top Of The Pops to mount a challenge to ITV1's SM:TV Live and CD:UK. TOTP, UK television's longest-running music show, is to have a new slot during BBC1's kids programme The Saturday Show from the autumn.CBBC host Fearne Cotton and TV newcomer Simon Grant have been announced as new presenters for The Saturday Show to replace Dani Behr and Joe Mace. The success of ITV1's Saturday shows SM:TV Live and CD:UK, a music-based segment, in the battle for kids viewing each week led to the axing of BBC1's long running Live And Kicking. The Beeb bounced back with The Saturday Show which has eaten into a large chunk of their rival's audience, particularly after the departure of Ant and Dec.The launch of Top Of The Pops On Saturday is expected to help still further. It will package together performances from the Friday evening show along with new footage, interviews, and live performances as well as going behind the scenes.TOTP has launched a number of UK spin-offs with the more adult-oriented TOTP2, an annual awards show and TOTP-Plus.It is now a major worldwide brand seen in more than 90 countries and has its own CDs and DVDs.Chris Cowey, executive producer of TOTP, said: "The Saturday Show edition of Top Of The Pops is another natural extension to the current Top Of The Pops brand and it's an exciting opportunity to build on Top Of The Pops' successful reputation."In much the same way that TOTP2 caters for the adult audience and Top Of The Pops magazine caters for the pre-teen audience, this new edition will ensure the Top Of The Pops brand continues to offer the best pop music to a new audience of Saturday morning viewers."

Claire's Musical Job Share

Martine McCutcheon is to share her West End role as Mary Poppins with ex-Steps singer Claire Richards.
The deal came after concern that illness-prone Martine might repeat her performance in My Fair Lady, when she missed more than 100 shows.
She and Claire will divide eight outings a week between them.
Theatre impresario Sir Cameron Mackintosh wanted Martine to play the magical nanny immortalised by Julie Andrews in the 1964 film, but was warned she might not be up to another demanding full-time role.
Now the chart-topping former EastEnder will share the limelight with Claire, who was rumoured to be a rival for the role. After winning the part of Eliza Higgins in My Fair Lady and wowing both the public and the critics, Martine was struck down by a virus, leaving understudy Alexandra Jay, 18, to step in.
A West End insider said: "Sir Cameron wanted her to play Mary Poppins desperately. When he came up with his plan everyone thought it was fantastic. "
It is a great opportunity for Claire, also 25, who hosts ITV's SM:TV on Saturday mornings, and is trying to launch a pop career away from Steps with fellow ex-member H.
And for Claire, the role realises a lifetime's ambition. "I know all the songs off by heart," she said.

More H & Claire Album Info

H & Claire have been back in Stockholm recording with the legendary Jorgen Elofsson. You will know about Jorgen as he wrote "It's The Way You Make Me Feel" for Steps but he's also written huge hits like "Sometimes" and "You Drive Me Crazy" for Britney Spears, "Evergreen" for Will Young, "Anyone Of Us" for Gareth Gates, "My Love", "Fool Again" and "If I Let You Go" for Westlife as well as "The Greatest Reward" on the new Celine Dion album. Jorgen has written H & Claire 3 songs for their new album. The first "You're A Love Song" he wrote with Dan Hill who has written hits for Celine Dion and The Backstreet Boys. H and Claire recorded the vocals in Stockholm on 16th and 17th July. The song is a big ballad duet and could be a future single! They also recorded "No Turning Back From Here" a song that both Claire and H co-wrote with Jorgen when they visited him in March. They recorded the vocals at Jorgen's central Stockholm studio on 18th and 19th July - at the same microphone as Britney and Celine! "No Turning Back From Here" is an up-tempo song and can be compared to classic Steps meets Ace Of Base and The Backstreet Boys!! The third song of Jorgen's that H and Claire have recorded is a big R Kelly style gospel pop song called "Let Me Carry You" and the lyrics are based on a famous poem/psalm called "Footsteps". H and Claire recorded this with Oskar Paul in London earlier in July. Oskar co-wrote and produced "Anything Is Possible" with Will Young and Gareth Gates. When H & Claire first heard this song they fell in love with it straight away and think it has got some of the best lyrics they've ever heard! More news soon as the greatest pop album ever nears completion! www.handclaire.com

Johnny Denies He And Lisa Are To Wed

Johnny Shentall has told the latest issue of Smash Hits magazine that he and Lisa have no plans to get married yet. Johnny says "We have absolutely no plans to get married at the moment. The papers said that Lisa was spotted in LA buying a wedding dresses. If we were looking for wedding dresses, why would be shopping together? And, anyway it was a lingerie shop! That's why I was there!" He had decided to set the record straight after rumours that the couple, who have been engaged for 2 years, were reported to have been seen buying a wedding dress and booking a haunted hotel to host the wedding in Ascot this month.

Is It The Patter Of Tiny Steps For Faye?

Former Steps star Faye Tozer sparked pregnancy rumours when she was spotted with a suspicious bump as she strolled with her fiance last week.
Renowned for her slimline curves, the blonde singer, who is currently recording a solo album, covered up despite the sunshine in casual ripped jeans, flip-flops and a top that was zipped snuggly over her expanding abdomen.
It certainly was not the figure of a woman recently offered £1million by Playboy magazine to pose naked.
Faye, 26, who scored a top 10 hit with opera star Russelll Watson with Someone Like You, plans to marry her Danish fiance Jasper Irn next month.(Sunday Express)

Shock horror! According to The Sun Claire and Myleene Klass of Hear'Say both turned up to Saturday's Party In The Park in Swansea wearing similar cream tops with lace on them! The tops which were not even the same seem to have caused a bit of storm in showbiz land, one onlooker said: 'I had to look closely to see that they weren't the same top. It's a good job the girls were on at different times there's nothing worse than when someone turns up with the same gear as you.' We don't reckon our Claire will be shedding too many tears though, particularly as she showed Ms Klass how to carry off a bit of real class!

Faye Puckers Up For Charity

Glamorous celebrities have given a unique twist to the phrase 'lip service' in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK.
Patsy Kensit, Kate Winslet, Darcey Bussell, Jerry Hall, Tania Bryer, Jemima Khan, Jilly Cooper, Faye Tozer and Twiggy are just a few of the many names who have planted a good luck kiss on the new Land Rover Discovery 2003 which will be competing in a rally from Ostersund in Sweden to Aqaba in Jordan next month.
An all-women team including journalist Kate Reardon and Cold Feet producer and director Christine Langam, will take part in the Trans World Events Midnight Sun to Red Sea rally in the new 2003 model diesel auto Land Rover Discovery. The rally, from June 1-21, will be the first international adventure for the new model Discovery, which will be launched in June.
The 8,000km route passes through Norway, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria and Jordan.
Cancer Research UK is aiming to raise £100,000 from the rally, all of which will go towards vital research. The vehicle has been donated by Land Rover and the team is also being supported by Good Year, 3M, SSDM and Shell.
Driver Joanne Cross will be at the wheel of the Cancer Research UK Discovery. She'll be joined by different female journalists on various stages of the journey. The Discovery will cut quite a dash in the male-dominated rally it's decorated in pink lipstick marks with a luscious pair of 'eyelashes' on the headlights. It's not only the vehicle which will stand out the team will be sporting hot pink Penelope Pitstop-style boilersuits, especially designed by Wallis, throughout the event.
The Cancer Research UK team will be met by a member of the British consulate on many stops along the route. Prince Faisal of the Jordanian Royal Family will welcome all of the teams on at Aqaba, the rally's finishing point.
The event reflects a new global focus for Cancer Research UK. The charity, the world's largest independent cancer research organisation, is branching out into international fundraising in a bid to realise its mission to conquer cancer through world class research.
Managing Director of Land Rover, Bob Dover says: "Land Rover is delighted to be the driving force behind Cancer Research UK's bid to raise £100,000. It's fitting that the new model Discovery will take its first international adventure at the same time as Cancer Research UK will be taking its first steps into world-wide fundraising."
Chairman and Group Managing Director of Good Year, Marco Molinari, says: "Good Year is proud to be supporting the all-women team. We're pleased that so many celebrities have given the team their backing and pledged their support to raising funds for Cancer Research UK."
Cancer Research UK interim Chief Executive, Nobel Prize winner Sir Paul Nurse, says: "Cancer Research UK is grateful to our sponsors Land Rover, Shell, Wallis, 3M and SSDM. All the money raised will help our scientists in achieving their mission to conquer cancer through world class research."

Here's sexy singer Claire Richards with her fiance Mark Webb showing everyone how they enjoy making sweet music together. Dancer Mark finally proposed to to the ex Steps star on a romantic trip to Rome last month and it's easy to see why she said yes, he clearly knows all the right moves to keep a girl happy!

H & Claire Record 3 Album Tracks

H & Claire have just completed the 3 new songs with their good friends Mark Topham and Karl Twigg who you will know as the songwriters and producers of most of Step's hits including One For Sorrow, Deeper Shade of Blue, Stomp, After the Love Has Gone, You'll Be Sorry, Summer Of Love and When I said Goodbye.
Mark & Karl wrote the 3 H & Claire songs, the first "All I Want Is You" is an uptempo stomper that sounds like Anastacia meets Fame. The second "Invincible" is a beautiful duet ballad where H & Claire can both belt out loud vocals. The third song "Two Hearts Beat as One" was co-written with another Steps hit maker Andrew Frampton and is a huge epic anthemic "west end" sounding ballad duet with tender lyrics. www.handclaire.com

Viewers of the Saturday morning show can choose who they want for a one-off performance in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
The four-week search, SM:tv Wannabes, will involve youngsters giving their impressions of presenters Brian Dowling, Tess Daly, Ian 'H' Watkins or Claire Richards.
The competition was launched on Saturday and four finalists will take part in an acting masterclass before the winner is chosen on August 24.
It is being launched with the Society Of London Theatre to promote Kids Week, a Marks and Spencer-sponsored initiative to encourage more youngsters to visit the theatre.

Faye Steps Up For A Shot

Ex-Steps singer Faye Tozer showed off her footie skills in a London park on Friday evening. She was taking a break from recording her solo album with fiance Jasper Irn. She has a good right foot on her. I'd say her old Steps pal Claire Richards should be thankful she didn't feel the end of it when she split up the group! (The News Of The World)

Claire's Dress Disaster

Former Steps chanteuse Claire Richards was apparently none-too-pleased when filming SM:tv on July 6th, as former Five star Abs Breen's video was screened during the show.
According to an insider, the bubbly singer was left reeling after she noticed that the saucy, crocheted dress worn by one of Abs' dancers in his promo for 'What You Got' was the very same outfit Claire can seen be sporting in the video to her and H's next single, 'Half A Heart', which was broadcast just 30 minutes later by SM:tv's sister show, CD:uk.
"Claire's usually smiley chops took a sudden a downward turn the minute she saw the girl in the same dress" the source revealed, explaining further "She just couldn't believe that the videos were being shown so soon after each other."
What makes matters even worse, both singles are released on the same day, 12th of August. (Pop-Music.com)

Lisa's Lover And Hear'Say Pals Chased By Gun Maniac

Pop stars HearSay fled for their lives when a thug menaced them with a gun. The chart-topping fivesome feared he was going to open fire. They dived into their tour van and sped off down a busy motorway. But the lunatic gave chase and followed them for about 30 miles. A band source claimed he even took a potshot at them with the awesome-looking gun. The source added: They were absolutely terrified and really thought this man was out to kill them. The bands ordeal began at an M1 service station near Leicester after they had been performing in Leeds. Petrifying Myleene Klass, Suzanne Shaw, Noel Sullivan, Danny Foster and Johnny Shentall were picnicking in the sun when the nutter confronted them. The source said: "The man clearly knew who they were and started waving the gun at them. They were terrified and piled into a vehicle driven by tour manager Graham Quinn. "But the gunman jumped into a second car and gave chase. At least one shot was fired during the chase. It was petrifying."
The terrified pop stars rang 999 and cops called in a helicopter and armed officers. But last night the man driving the gunman claimed the gun was not real it was a widely available £2.99 weapon for firing ballbearings. Greg Du-feu, 19, said: One of the lads was leaning out of the window pretending to point the gun at them. It was only meant as a joke but it must have been frightening. The police are taking it very seriously. I can understand it because the band wouldnt have realised we only playing and never meant them any harm. Greg was giving four pals a lift in his red M-Reg Ford Escort when they spotted HearSay having a snack at an outdoor picnic table.  He said a 17-year-old friend who was sitting in the front passenger seat had just bought the weapon at a discount store in Northampton.
Trainee computer technician Greg, from Wellingborough, Northants, told The Sun last night: "It was big gun about 18 inches long. Wed been skateboarding and were on our way home. "My pal was proud of his gun and hed been firing it all over the place. "Then we spotted the band you couldnt miss them. "The next thing, he winds down the window and starts pointing it at them and they just scattered. It went on for a few seconds. He was pointing the gun at them and laughing. It was all a pretence. We were laughing because we knew it wasnt a real gun." But Greg insisted NO ballbearings had been shot at the band. He said: He didnt have any left so he couldnt fire at them but they might have thought he did.
They poured back into their big van with blacked out windows and we were in a chase for about 30 miles. At one point they were alongside and someone wound a window down and threw a plastic bottle at my car. Then we lost them in the heavy traffic. The police arrested my mate and took him away. They questioned him and kept him there all night. Theyve let him out on bail but hes very shaken. Greg added: I can understand the bands reaction people like them get all sorts of threats and hate mail. It was a stupid thing to do and Id like to say sorry. It was a joke that went too far. A HearSay spokesman said the band shrugged off their fear and went on stage to entertain fans in Dudley, West Midlands, only hours after the gun drama. He added: They were incredibly shaken by the incident and the girls in particular were very distressed. Cops confirmed they are investigating an incident at Leicester Forest East services on Sunday. (The Sun)

New Tag Board

We've introduced a new feature to the news page so that you can comment on the latest news that we report. It's called a tag board and here's a bit about it. Tag boards are a new means of communication on the Internet. They are not a replacement for high-end message boards or forums, but rather they have far different uses. The real power of a tag board is its simplicity, which encourages visitors to enter a brief message and "Tag" for instant gratification, hassle-free. There is no special registration to fill out and no hoops to jump through The tag board can be found in the left hand coloum of this page, remember to use it sensibly otherwise it will be removed.

H & Claire Liven Things Up

H & Claire performed a stunning live version of Half A Heart on The Brian Conley Show last night, complete with a live band. They were truly brilliant and there was barelly any difference in their vocals from the recording proving once and for all that they CAN sing live! That should silence their critics which strangely enough included ex bandmate Faye who challenged them to perform live, well they've risen to her challenge and they definately pulled it off. H's grandparents were also in for a shock when he pulled them out of the audienece to perform the Tragedy dance routine alongside himself and Claire they were really cool and totally up for a laugh - that's obvioulsly who H takes after!

H & Claire's Chart Competition

H & Claire are facing quite a bit of competition when they release their new single, Half A Heart, on 12th August. They're up against the likes of Abs who is the first member of ex boy band 5ive to go solo, Hear'Say who are re-launching themselves with a new look and a new member and 3SL who are trying to secure themselves  their first top 1o hit with a drastic change in musical direction. But we still reckon that the dynamic duop can make it to the top spot. Here's a look at their competition:

H & Claire - Half A Heart
Third Edge - In And Out
3sl - Touch Me Tease Me
Romeo - Romeo Dunn
Abs - What You Got
Hear'Say - Lovin Is Easy
The Hives - Die, Alright!
Lasgo - Alone

Here's H & Claire looking on top form as they perfromed their spectacular set at last week's Mardi Gras festival. The set which includede their hit single 'DJ' and the new track 'Half A Heart' went down a storm with the crowds on Hackney Marsh, London. But it was no rest for the wicked as the dynamic duo then jumped into a helicopter and flew off to Birmingham to wow the crowds at the city's Party In The Park!

H & Claire Album News

H & Claire have been revealing a few secrets about their new album, which is due out later this year. Apparently the 15 track album will contain NO cover versions, so we don't know what happened to this Gemini track, being reworked by the boys from Abba, that they kept telling us about! The album will also contain just two songs written by the pop pair, which in my opinion is a shame because they can both write excellent songs (Over You, If I Could Say The Words, In It For Love etc) However they will be working some of the top talent in writing at the moment including Bristish dance supremo Daniel Beddingfield.

Saturday Show Presents Sacked

The BBC have sacked it's Saturday morning TV duo, Dani Behr and Joe Mace, after being constantly thrashed in the ratings by rival ITV show SM:tv presented by Tess, Brian and H & Claire. The Saturday Show was launched last year in a bid to try and win viewers back but it has failed to do so and Dani and Joe will bow out in September. It's great news for SM:tv though whose presenters Brian Dowling and Tess Daly have just signed a new year long contract. H & Claire will stay with the show until December.

H: 'I Had A Nervous Breakdown'

Former Steps star H has revealed how he booked himself into a a top rehab clinic after suffering a nervous breakdown. The singer said he was so "tortured" he almost quit his pop career during the band's last world tour. H - whose nick-name refers to his hyperactive personality - blames his breakdown on his inability to sleep. He said: "In Australia, my body just couldn't handle it any more and I collapsed. "As soon as I arrived I began to feel sick and dizzy. I had gone without sleep for three days which was caused partly by jet-lag. "I just couldn't stop crying. I thought I was having a nervous breakdown. I nearly walked out on Steps at that point. My body was shouting out, it was torture. After that I booked myself in for sessions at The Priory." The clinic in Roehampton, South-West London, is famous for treating celebrities. He was diagnosed with Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome, which means his body doesn't know when it's time to rest. H told Sneak magazine - the full interview is out next Tuesday - that the illness has blighted his life since he was 18. "I've tried hypnosis and acupuncture and even been wired up with electrodes at sleep labs," said the singer - now in duo H and Claire. "I'd swap everything - the money, the fame, the career - to sleep normally." (The People)

She said: "I am scared about having to make all the plans. I really dont know where to start.
It is exciting too, though. We haven't decided whether to sell the rights to a glossy magazine.
I'd prefer not to but the money might be too appetising."

After tabloid revalations in May that Lisa Scott-Lee's fiance, Johnny Shentall, was cheating on her we thought she would see sense amd call off her plans for a glitzy wedding....but we were mistaken.
Speaking at the DanceStar awards the former Steps singer yet again praised her naughty toy boy - who these days can be found in some band called Hear'Say.
Lisa told us: "Every night Johnny and I go to bed together and we know we are madly in love. There was nothing to forgive Johnny for because he didn't do anything wrong. He didn't have an affair."
