STEPS have been offered £2.3 million to do a new 25-date UK tour. The full scale stadium tour runs from November right through to the end of 2001.

STEPS beauty FAYE TOZER and her fiancé Jasper Irn showed their love in a public display of affection at a charity auction. FAYE who bid for tickets for the Royal Ballet at the event, proved she's certainly found the right man for her, and she's not the only one, LISA SCOTT-LEE is also set to marry her long term boyfriend Johnny Shentall next year.

FAYE GETS FOXY!

Sexy STEPS babe FAYE TOZER has peeled off and layed back for this month's issue of Sky magazine and the stunning 25 year old proclaims "No one has ever seen me this sexy before!" and we have to agree!
FAYE posed in array of raunchy outfits including a miniscule gold bikini and a skimpy pair of white bikini briefs and she talks honestly and openly about life in STEPS, her plans for marriage and her dreams of solo sucess.
The issue featuring FAYE on the cover is out now priced at £2.70.

SOAP'S OUT OF STEP WITH FANS

Crossroads was so desperate to lure young viwers from Neighbours that it resorted to dirty tricks.
Pop group STEPS were booked into the hotel and there was a big build up to their arrival. Well as big a build up as the Crossroad's budget would allow.
Staff kept talking about their celebrity guest and braced themselves for the hoards of screaming teenagers.
Fat chance. STEPSmania amounted to a few school girls hanging around outside and moving around a lot to give the impression there were more of them.
The band were eventually smuggled round the back way. The bloke in charge of security said it was safety reasons, but in reality it for reasons of money.
Even a walk on by STEPS must cost a fortune. It came as no surprise that they were kept firmly behind closed doors in the executive suite.
Housekeeper Virginia took up extra towels and waitress Beena supplied the drinks - but there was no sign of the band!
They left early and star struck chamber maid Kully was oh-so dissapointed when she found out thats he had missed them.
She was sent up to clear their room and I must say I shared her surprise when there was aknock at the door and the dark haired bloke from the band walked in.
He said he had forgotten something and she just stood there gobsmacked. When he found out she was not going to their concert he gave her T-shirt. A quick glimpse at 1/5 of STEPS and a lousy T-shirt?! It will take more than this to win the kids over from Ramsay Street.

The track called HUMAN TOUCH has never been heard by UK or European fans so remains a bit of a mystery. STEPS FAYE TOZER has confessed that "low self-confidence" nearly inspired her to have a breast op.
"I was intent on having a boob jobbut then I figured out that a couple of pieces of plastic in my chest wouldn't help my confidence, or would raise it for the wrong reasons," she told Sky magazine, which is out now.
Thank goodness for that we all love you just the FAYE you are.

H LANDS LEAD ROLE

Following the success of line-dancing mate LEE LATCHFORD-EVANS and his starring role - as himself - in failing daytime soap 'CROSSROADS', H from STEPS is to give acting a spin.
According to the Daily Star, H, real name H, has been offered the lead role in a new West End production of the musical 'Godspell'. However, H, noted as a wacky joker, may not be able to take the part, which starred former pin-up David Cassidy in the '70s, due to STEPS' schedule.
H said the offer was "an honour" and "a dream come true". H is an accomplished all-round entertainer. He pretended to be Leonardo DiCaprio reprising his role in 'Titanic' in a Steps video and also once wore a retro chic T-shirt of Jimi Hendrix onstage.

LISA AND LEE FIGHT TO SAVE THE CHILDREN

Chancellor Gordon Brown and two stars from pop band STEPS are joining 500 children at the London Eye to call for an end to child poverty.
Singer's LISA SCOTT-LEE and LEE LATCHFORD-EVANS were traveling on the Eye with the youngsters, who were invited by more than 40 charities and youth groups.
The event has been organised by the End Child Poverty Coalition. (Teletext)



FAYE GETS HER PRIORITIES RIGHT

STEPS' FAYE TOZER has responded to Alfie's offer of a collaboration, first announced weeks ago in NME, and it seems the unlikely pairing could be on - but only if Alfie make the first move!
"I went to the NME Carling Awards and I sat on the same table with them," FAYE explains in the current issue of Sky magazine. "They were quoted in NME as saying, 'We'd write with her.'" Though FAYE made no comment at the time, she now says: "Nothing's going to happen - unless they ask me."
TOZER is still writing songs with boyfriend Jasper from indie act One, although those songs are unlikely to see the light of day. FAYE explained that she records at home and "I do that stuff because of my own personal taste. I enjoy it but it's not my job. My job is STEPS - that's my priority."

BUZZ IN JAPAN

STEPS latest album BUZZ is due to be released in Japan later this month and it has yet another different cover! This makes the grand total of alternative BUZZ album sleeves to 3!
STEPS will be in Japan at the end of the month to promote the album and perform a couple of small gigs in some Japanese clubs. It is thought that the album may contain as many as 4, as yet unknown, bonus tracks.

IT'S THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL is STEPS' new single. This track is the 1st single for Asia from their latest album BUZZ which is due to release around Asia in April! The single debut at #2 when it was released in the UK!
STEPS will release their third album BUZZ in Asia this month! To launch the album regionally, the band will fly into Tokyo, Japan for a local promotions and a special press conference!

WEST END BOY!

When we heard that H was gonna be starring in a musical, we went straight round to quiz the man himself!
"I've got some news for you that I haven't told anyone yet!" H giggles as we settle down for our chat. "It's been in the press, but I can confirm that I've been offered the lead in the musical Godspell!"
"It's based around the story of Jesus, but it's not like an R.E class!"
Has he been asked star in musicals before?
"Yes, but this is the first time I might have time to do it. It's such an honour to be asked. I've wanted to be in a West End musical since I was a kid! Plus I've always loved this show in particular. Before I came to London I was in a theatre company and just after I left the put on Godspell! I was gutted, but now I can do it in the West End it's a dream come true. It will be the ultimate high for me!"
So when do you start?
"Oh no it's not like that. Nothing's confirmed, their people are in talks with my people."
How will you be able to fit it in around STEPS?
"I don't know! As I say it's not definate yet. We have got some time off next year..."
Wouldn't you rather spend your time off relaxing?
"Oooh no! Some of STEPS would probably want to sleep, rest and go to a desert island for a while, but I'm happy to work. It'll be good for me, my voice will be stronger, I'll be singing like every night and improving my acting as well...it'll be a lot of performing!

BELGIUM GETS THE STEPS BUZZ!

STEPS are using a rather unusal promotional technique to promote their latest album BUZZ in Belgium. They've comissioned a giant inflatable replica of their album BUZZ and are having it driven around Brussels, Ghent and Antwerp on the back of a lorry!
It's certainly an unusal idea, but it seems to be paying off as buzz has jumped from No.49 up to No.13 in the Belgium charts! They'll also be handing out free STEPS bracelets and STEPS stickers in selected record stores across Belgium, so make sure you don't miss out!

STEPS AT PRIDE OF BRITAIN AWARDS

Last week FAYE, LEE, LISA and CLAIRE attended The Mirror's Pride Of Britain Awards to celebrate the bravery of very special individuals who live in our country.
The awards ceremony is to celebrate people who have shown bravery in many aspects of their lives such as children who suffer from serious illness and ordinary people who have saved other peoples lives.
The mother of murdered school girl Sarah Payne gave an extremely moving speech and LISA broke down into tears, because she and the rest of STEPS had appealed on TV and in the national press for the safe return of Sarah.
FAYE went on to say "This is what award ceremonies should be about, the real people in our country."

LISA BAGS HER BOOM! BOY - OFFICIAL

LISA has spilt the beans on Johnny Shentall, the love of her life, in the new issue of Smash Hits magazine:
It's official - LISA STEPS and Johnny Boom! are engaged. First they were, then they weren't, then they were and then they weren't again! But when Johnny turned up to a recent STEPS photo shoot, all was confirmed. Now here's the proof behind the rumours...

1. LISA arrives sporting her stunning engagement ring.
2. At 2pm, Johnny pops into the studio to shower his loved one with kisses and hugs. The two cuddle the afternoon away and look happier than a lottery winner under attack from Mr.Tickle!
3. STEPS' press officer produces a bottle of bubbly and congratulates the happy couple.
4. Johnny stops Smash Hits for a quick chat. "We weren't trying to hide it from anyone" he tells us sincerely, "We just wanted to tell our friends and families before this got out"
5. Johnny and LISA have not set a date. "Lis' is really busy this year and we're not in a hurry to set an exact date just yet" says Johnny, "It'll be some time in 2004."

Later in an "In The Sack With LISA STEPS" interview LISA says "I am engaged to Johnny from Boom! He proposed to me on Valentine's Day so it was all very romantic. I think we're good together. We won't be getting married for a few years yet because we're still young and we've both got our careers to concentrate on - I'm really busy with STEPS at the moment. But I am very, very happy to be marrying Johnny!"

IS POP GOING POP?!

Are pop's stars about to quit? First Martine McCutcheon is reported to be leaving pop for West End musicals. Then there's word that STEPS are to split by the end of the year. So does this signal pop's demise?
Music industry insiders have been recently casting doubt on the fate of pop. The slide of the Spice Girls - the original girl band - might suggest pop's time is up. That's certainly the view McCutcheon seems to have taken.
Her choice to abandon a solo career for the musical 'My Fair Lady' has more to do with her sliding album sales than a love for the stage. Her career has never revisited the heights of her '98 number 1 'Perfect Moment.'
'Martine doesn't think the pop thing is for her. She gave it a stab but, to be frank, it didn't work out' an insider told a UK tabloid. Pop, she feels, is based on fashion, but musicals are timeless.
STEPS, however, are reportedly quitting while ahead. According to another British tabloid's report, the band will perform a 'farewell tour' before Christmas. Two singles will emerge this year, before a final greatest hits release in October.
A source close to the group admits they 'can't believe how long they've been together. It's a real surprise because we thought they'd split last year.'

However as we know STEPS have denied all rumours of a split and in the new issue of Smash Hits Lisa says:
"I think it's a shame that the media print things which aren't true and people believe them. It's so not the case that we are splitting! We're a strong group. We have never talked about splitting up so it's strange that everyone else is talking about it when we haven't even discussed it between ourselves! It's definately NOT true! I haven't got a clue where the rumour came from and I don't care as long as people realise that they can't believe everything they read!"

FAYE from STEPS is absolutely exhausted and desperate for a holiday. The band are in the studio finishing off the Greatest Hits album at the moment. They were supposed to get two months off but now at least one of those months has been booked up with work commitments. FAYE told us that she's very excited about her wedding next year - "and having a very long honeymoon!".

STEPS TO LAUNCH "BUZZ" ALBUM IN TOKYO, JAPAN ON APRIL 25TH!

Jive's British pop band, STEPS consisting of LISA SCOTT-LEE, IAN WATKINS (H), CLAIRE RICHARDS, LEE LATCHFORD-EVANS and FAYE TOZER will be in Tokyo, Japan to mark the launch of their third album "Buzz" in Asia!
The special launch event, which includes a Press Conference, and a 80's-style showcase held at the Velfarre Club, will kick off on April 25th and will be attended by media from the region. From April 20th to April 30th, STEPS will be heavily involved in a series of Japanese-based promotions that includes an appearance on NHK's "Pop Jam".
"It's The Way You Make Me Feel" is Asia's first single from the album "Buzz". The track is one of the two Cheiron recorded tracks and written and produced by David Kruger and Jorgen Elofssen, whose credits include Britney's hit songs "Sometimes" and "Crazy".
In the UK, STEPS fever continues as the album "Buzz" has reached Double Platinum and is well on its way towards 3x platinum!

HERE AND NOW is, unbelievably, STEPS' 16th video and features pop's favourite quintet racing round a maze before being blasted into space! And make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the soon-to-be-premiered promo for the single's second track YOU'LL BE SORRY which picks up the story in the space setting!

STEPS are currently on a promotional tour of Japan where they are going down a storm and their international single IT'S THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL is sure to be a huge hit. As well as performing, the fivesome are making sure they have plenty of time for sightseeing and shopping, with H particularly keen to pick up stacks of Hello Kitty merchandise!

After Japan, STEPS will be heading over to Europe before returning to the UK for the release of HERE AND NOW/YOU'LL BE SORRY on 28 May. The single will be officially launched with a PA at London's G-A-Y club on Saturday 26 May and worldpop will be bringing you exclusive news and gossip from the event. FIRST REVIEW OF BUZZ IN ASIA

As you know STEPS are on a tour of Asia to promote their latest album BUZZ, yesterday they performed a very special showcase for the album in Tokyo and gave fans a tatser of some of their newest tracks including their hit single IT'S THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL.

MTV Asia have written this review of the album:

Sounds Like: Wahey! It's our favorite (other than S Club 7 of course!) U.K. boy/girl group, Steps coming at'cha with their third studio album "Buzz." What does it sound like? A right stomper with a huge buzzz!

You May Have Heard: Oh, it depends really. For the regional fans, definitely their first Asian track, "The Way You Make Me Feel" and probably "Stomp" if you've got the "Mega Hit 10" compilation album. If you have their previous singles, you may also have heard "Better The Devil You Know" and "Summer Of Love." Happy and chirpy stuff huh?

We Fancy: The pure pop-tacular euro ditties! No one does it better than Steps with the girls' (and a little bit from the boys as well) powerful vocals and big choruses that's iced with a funky retro touch. So to all the posers out there, smoochy smoochy! You lot stand no chance at all!

We Are Not Sure About: Not much. It's still the Steps-esque tunes with a slightly slicker production that we have finally grown to love. But what's up the solemn looking album cover for the Asian edition of "Buzz?" A bit scary, don't you think? We'd much prefer the bright and perky U.K. edition.

Verdict: Not much of a rollercoaster ride with the mid-tempos but there're enough feel good tunes for you to chill out with your mates. Forget about playing it loud to annoy your parents though. Then again, they would probably clap their hands and join in the party as well!

STEPS AHEAD

STEPS have an extremely busy schedule this year...thanks to Ian who has mailed us with some details of just what we can expect from the fab five in the next few weeks.

STEPS will be L.A from Aril 30th to May 5th to record a TV special for kid's channel Nickelodeon. They're planning to perform tracks including ONE FOR SORROW, BUZZ, HERE AND NOW, STOMP, LAST THING ON MY MIND and IT'S THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL.

Then it's all go again as they're due to return home to the UK on 7th May to promote their new single, HERE AND NOW/YOU'LL BE SORRY, they'll also be back in the recording studio to finish off their Greatest Hits album, which is due to be released at the end of September 2001.

After all that it's expected that they won't have time to relax as they're off again, this time on a promo trip to South Africa!

FAYE MEETS THE TWEENIES

The Tweenies and boy band A1 are among the stars who will be performing at the Children's BBC Prom in London which will be co-hosted by STEPS star FAYE TOZER.

A QUESTION OF CLAIRE

CLAIRE will be appearing on pop/comedy quiz A Question Of Pop on BBC1 at 6.30pm. It's the second time that Claire has appeared on the show she was on the first series with H and LISA and this new series will also feature appearances from LEE and H. It's bound to be good fun so make sure you set your videos!



BELGIAN CHART NEWS

STEPS are still doing really well in Belgium at the moment. Here are the latest chart postions for them:
BUZZ has dropped down 4 places to No.15
And on the radio charts IT'S THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL has moved up one place to No.20.

STEPS @ LONDON'S MARDIS GRAS

STEPS will be making an appearance at London's Mardis Gras again this year, the concert is part of the biggest gay and lesbian festival in the UK.
STEPS will be joined on the Main Stage in Finsbury Park by Hear'Say, Atomic Kitten, Five and Bjorn Again.
Tickets are on sale now and cost £15. Gates will be opening at 1.00pm on Saturday 30th June 2001.

STEPS NZ AND OZ NEWS

It's looking increasingly unlikely that STEPS will chart with their latest single STOMP in New Zeland, the band have done no promotion over there while they have been concentrating on Belgium and Japan and the track is getting no radio air play. Our NZ and OZ reporter Chris informs us that he has seen the video on cable channel 24/7 but it's not a well known channel and very few people have it.
STOMP also failed to set the Australian charts alight when it only managed to scrape in at No.62 when it was released there last month.
